Cities & Villages

Between fifty and hundred kilometres from Le Voilà you can find various cities that are definitely worth paying a visit. A small selection:

Cities

Langres

One of the 50 most beautiful cities in all of France! The high altitude fortified city offers a wonderous view of the lakes, valleys and forests. The town also has two museums and monuments from the Gallo-Roman and Renaissance periods. Apart from the rich history, Langres is a nice place to enjoy a drink on one of the many terraces or to go do some shopping. You should definitely taste the famous Langres-cheese, it’s delicious!

Chaumont

When entering Chaumont you immediately feel that you are entering a historical city. An absolute must-see (actually you can’t miss it) is the immense railway-bridge with around fifty arches. You can also walk across the bridge, something that makes for a great view. Here too you can find numerous shops, restaurants and cafés to enjoy yourself.

Nancy

With more than a hundred thousand inhabitants Nancy is a big city. Its historical city centre is known for its numerous squares, museums, parcs and shopping streets. Place Stanislas is one of the most beautiful squares of France, maybe even of Europe.

Dijon

Mustard, that’s often the first thing people think of when they think of Dijon. However, the capital of the district of Côte d’Or and the region Bourgogne has a lot more to offer. The beautiful edifices, cathedrals and even a palace are a lust for the eye. A wonderful atmosphere!

Villages

Around Melay there are more than enough nice villages that are worth paying a visit. You can, for example, pay a visit to the thermal baths of Bourbonne les Bains or you could go to the old fortified city Châtillon-sur Saône, where the remains of the prosperous Renaissance period are still visible today. Every year the Fête de la Renaissance takes place here, with knights, theatre and music. A lovely event to visit with children!

A little further away you can find Colombey-les-Deux-Églises. This was the residence and last resting place of Charles de Gaulle. His mansion, La Boisserie, is still property of his family and can be visited as a museum.

Domrémy-la-Pucelle is an absolute ‘must’ for history lovers. In the year 1412 this is where the national heroine of France, Jeanne d’Arc, was born. You can pay a visit to her birth house and there is also a museum dedicated to her, where you can learn everything there is to know about this famous Française.
